For Linda Crowley, the first day of the year had always been set aside to work on new, positive beginnings and 1970 was no different. Her husband and children were by all accounts healthy and no one even considered the terrible thought that tragedy would strike before the day was over, and life as she had known it was gone.

This post is for those of you who have spent some lazy summer days lounging on East Sandwich Beach. This morning my husband and I took a beach walk to see the havoc wreaked on our beloved beach by last week's blizzard. Here is some of what we found:

If You’re Like Me

If you're like me you are probably coming off of a very busy week and have a ton of things to do around the house, but then there is this incredible weather…. Yup. Things around the house will still be there when the cold rains come. Today I put them aside and brought a . . . → Read More: If You’re Like Me

Mango Sunsets

This summer I have been stuck on the fiction of Dorothea Benton Frank. Her books take place in the “Low Country”, the islands off the coast of South Carolina. My interest in her work was piqued when her novel Folly Beach popped up in my recommended reads. A few years ago I spent some time . . . → Read More: Mango Sunsets

Just…A Nice Day

Just a great day at the beach with my family. Book done, deadlines met, no pressing matters. Just complete peace and time with those closest to me. Come. Pull up a beach chair, and enjoy this with us.

Without Change or Shadow

On these vacations mornings I’m always the first and only one awake at 7 am. I leave my husband sleeping, daughter and friend buried upstairs, oblivious to noise, due to the air conditioner, and my niece and her friend sprawled across the pull-out bed in the kitchen/living room. I make my breakfast and settle into . . . → Read More: Without Change or Shadow

Tonight.

Just serious appreciation for the friends and family here this week around the fire pit. It’s 6 pm and the kids are just migrating back from the beach. The backyard is cool and breezy. Dinner is simmering on the grill. There’s a Skinny Girl Margarita to my right.

Today I didn’t even attempt the . . . → Read More: Tonight.

Happy 4th

Late. At the fire pit. Tough day. No real holiday energy. What do you do in that case? Easy. Find friends.

I came home from a hot and not so comfortable day on the beach. I made coffee to try to reenergize, but to no avail. Friends arrived. Made dinner and drinks and guess . . . → Read More: Happy 4th

Solitary Confinement

My solitary confinement began six days ago with the onset of a bad cold. (My husband brought it from NY). I haven’t been sick in years and forgot what it was like. I almost didn’t even remember my old cold remedies that used to work to shorten the life of such a cold. Besides the . . . → Read More: Solitary Confinement

Speaking Of Joy….

My writer friend Diane published a new blog on Saturday entitled “Feed the Soul”. It was just a short little post, but it made me stop, and for the last three days, ponder the question she posed. Her question was:

“What makes you joyful? What gets you out of your entanglement?”

Dreams Shimmer

Dreams do that. They lie out there like the waves glinting on the water and move….ever so subtly through the back of my mind. No matter what I’m doing, I’m aware of those dreams, clicking like a wave on the shore, rippling underneath and giving energy and motion to my days.
