For Linda Crowley, the first day of the year had always been set aside to work on new, positive beginnings and 1970 was no different. Her husband and children were by all accounts healthy and no one even considered the terrible thought that tragedy would strike before the day was over, and life as she had known it was gone.

And Then There Were Two

This morning I went to do my usual vacuuming when I spotted tiny black dots all over the floor. I called my husband into the room and the investigation began. The dots were little bugs that appeared to be dead. Husband gets out the magnifying glass and they were moving their tiny legs. The . . . → Read More: And Then There Were Two

Who Invited Arthur?

I don’t know who invited Arthur to wedding week, but in spite of making things difficult, I’m glad he was here. He disrupted the debugging of my backyard and now that has to wait until Monday and he ruined the landscaping by dropping pockets of leaves all over the yard. My gazebo couldn’t be up . . . → Read More: Who Invited Arthur?

Breakfast In Bed

This weekend my Boston daughter and her friends came down to the cape for what they call their “winter retreat”. They bring comfy clothes, food and drink, and settle in for three days. They park the cars Friday night and don’t leave the house until they say goodbye sometime late Sunday.

This year they . . . → Read More: Breakfast In Bed

And These Are A Few of My Favorite Things…

…from 2013. And when the dog bites and the bee stings I’m grateful for them. I am the kind of person who loves anything that makes life easier. I can’t help sharing any piece of technology that alleviates an annoying thing or any food that helps maintain weight or make me feel better, or any . . . → Read More: And These Are A Few of My Favorite Things…

Shoveling Shells

This weekend my husband and I had a great time building a new fire pit in the backyard. This involved shoveling shells. Now, you may not think of shells as something to shovel. You think of bark mulch, dirt, and mostly snow when you think of shoveling something, but in our case, this weekend, we . . . → Read More: Shoveling Shells

Fix The Door

Every May I clean out my garage, put screens on the door and settle my white resin rocker and small red table in front of the screen. This summer room becomes my “place” until late fall. I sit for hours gazing out across the marsh, at the cottages on the beach. If I turn my . . . → Read More: Fix The Door

Down In The Valley

My breath was knocked out of me at Jean Do's plight because I absolutely cannot imagine my brain being alive and not being able to do what I'm doing now – communicating my thoughts and words to you. But he wrote a whole book AFTER this happened to . . . → Read More: What’s My Hurry?

iLuv

Some days are just filled with love. Not big, huge starry-eyed I'm falling in love love, but teeny tiny fondness love for little ordinary things. This weekend, as I cleaned, relaxed, and did artwork, I found myself saying "I really love and appreciate ______." to my husband four or five times. I asked him to . . . → Read More: iLuv

Moving On

Lazy Sunday afternoon, no more football, cold outside….almost February first….time to move on. Away with the snowflakes on the window and the snowmen around the room. Time to pull away the furniture, wash the floor, vacuum the ceiling fan and the multitude of other tasks it takes to clean a room from top to bottom . . . → Read More: Moving On

Ready, Set, Go

This weekend everyone is decorating for Xmas, us included. We went to get our wreath for the side of the house. Put up all the outside decorations. Then I bribed my daughter to help with the inside decorating by cracking open a bottle of red.

Of course, before the Xmas decor could begin, fall . . . → Read More: Ready, Set, Go
